3D Modeling Specialist
PhotoRobot’s 360° capture is the input to a 3D pipeline. This specialty teaches how to take that input and produce production-grade 3D models — for e-commerce AR/VR, automotive visualization, fashion footwear, industrial documentation. Capture discipline, reconstruction QC, integration, delivery.
What you’ll learn
After completing the 3D Modeling Specialist package and passing the certification exam, you will be able to:
- Choose the right 3D pipeline approach for the customer’s use case — photogrammetry vs depth-fusion vs hybrid; when 3D adds value vs when interactive 360° viewer is sufficient
- Design capture sessions for 3D reconstruction — lighting, camera angle coverage, calibration targets, background separation, pre-shot checklist
- Operate the post-capture pipeline — reconstruction software options, QC criteria, common failure modes (thin geometry, reflective materials, transparent objects), iteration cycles
- Integrate 3D models into customer-facing channels — web (model-viewer, Sketchfab, custom WebGL), mobile AR (USDZ for iOS, glTF for Android), e-commerce embeds
- Optimize file size for delivery — Draco compression, KTX2 textures, level of detail (LOD), platform-specific tradeoffs
- Recognize when 3D doesn’t pay off — overkill for low-detail products, technically infeasible for highly reflective/transparent items, ROI marginal for low-margin SKUs
This package is technical and integrative. You’ll bridge PhotoRobot’s capture side with downstream 3D tooling that PhotoRobot doesn’t ship — partner reconstruction services, third-party viewers, customer e-commerce platforms.
What’s included
The 3D Modeling Specialist package contains 4 modules plus an end-of-package certification exam.
3D Modeling track (SP3D## namespace — all new in this package)
No reused modules — 3D Modeling is a domain not yet covered by core tracks. SP3D modules build the full pipeline from capture to delivery.
- SP3D01 — From 360° to 3D: Pipeline Architecture ✅ Live in v0.37.0. ~90 min. Photogrammetry vs depth-fusion vs hybrid approaches, output formats (GLB, USDZ, OBJ, FBX), quality dimensions (polycount, textures, UV mapping, normal/displacement maps), when 3D is overkill vs underkill.
- SP3D02 — Capture Discipline for 3D Reconstruction ✅ Live in v0.37.0. ~75 min. Lighting requirements (flat for reconstruction; deep texture/specular for material capture), camera angle coverage (top, sides, 45°, bottom), calibration targets (color checker, scale reference, fiducials), background separation strategies, pre-shot checklist.
- SP3D03 — Post-Capture Pipeline + Quality Control ✅ Live in v0.37.0. ~75 min. Reconstruction software options (Reality Capture, Metashape, photogrammetry-as-a-service), PhotoRobot’s integration patterns, QC criteria (silhouette accuracy, material fidelity, scale correctness), common failure modes, iteration cycles.
- SP3D04 — Integration + Delivery ✅ Live in v0.37.0. ~60 min. Embedding (model-viewer, Sketchfab, custom WebGL), file size optimization (Draco compression, KTX2 textures, LOD), mobile AR delivery (USDZ for iOS, glTF for Android Scene Viewer), cross-platform considerations, analytics + engagement metrics.
Each module includes a textbook (reference reading), a workbook (exercises grounded in real 3D scenarios), and a knowledge check quiz.
How the package is delivered
Three delivery formats:
Online
Self-paced, on this Academy site. Best for solo operators or integrators preparing for an upcoming 3D engagement. Includes module knowledge checks and a final certification exam.
At PhotoRobot studio (Klecany)
Group training in PhotoRobot’s training studio. 2-day intensive with hands-on 3D capture sessions, sample reconstructions of pre-prepared products, QC discussion using real reconstruction outputs (good + bad models for compare/contrast).
In your studio
PhotoRobot Certified Instructor travels to your team’s location. 2-3 days working with your actual product catalog, your downstream tooling, your customer’s expected platforms. Best when 3D is a strategic capability you’re adding rather than a one-time engagement.
Certification
After completing all modules, students take the PhotoRobot 3D Modeling Specialist certification exam:
- 30 questions drawn from a pool weighted across the modules (SP3D01-04 ~25 % each)
- 70 % pass threshold
- 60 minutes
- Scenario-heavy mix — most questions present a 3D engagement situation and ask for the best decision (pipeline choice, capture parameters, QC verdict, integration approach)
- Verifiable certificate — auto-generated PDF with QR code that resolves to a public verification page
- 2 years validity — refresh exam available before expiry to extend (~15 questions, 75 % pass, 30 min, extends by 2 years)
The 3D Modeling Specialist cert exam pool is LIVE in v0.37.0 at /quiz/certifications/3d-modeling-specialist.html — 30 weighted questions. 70 % pass = PhotoRobot Certified 3D Modeling Specialist credential.
Who should take it
The 3D Modeling Specialist package is for:
- PhotoRobot Certified Operators working at studios where the customer needs 3D output alongside (or instead of) 360° viewers
- PhotoRobot Certified Integrators building 3D-related integrations (e-commerce platforms with 3D, mobile AR apps, automotive interactive visualizers)
- Solution architects at e-commerce / automotive / fashion customers evaluating PhotoRobot for 3D pipelines
- Studio managers at customers planning to add 3D as a service offering
It is not for:
- Pure 3D artists / modelers who craft models from scratch (this specialty assumes PhotoRobot capture as input, not Maya/Blender authoring)
- Customers without an active 3D use case (the depth here only pays off when applied)
- Anyone not yet certified at the Operator or Integrator level
Prerequisites
Required (one of):
- PhotoRobot Certified Operator (current, not lapsed) — if you’ll own capture-side responsibility
- PhotoRobot Certified Integrator (current, not lapsed) — if you’ll own downstream-integration responsibility
Helpful:
- Hands-on experience with at least one 3D file format (you’ve opened a .glb in a viewer, you’ve seen what a USDZ is on iOS)
- Familiarity with one downstream platform (model-viewer, Sketchfab, mobile AR Scene Viewer)
- Basic understanding of mesh + texture concepts (polycount, UV maps — even at the wiki-page level)
- Customer or project context where 3D is being evaluated or built
If you don’t yet have the prerequisites, complete Operator Standard or Integrator Essentials first. 3D Modeling Specialist is intentionally a depth-add, not an entry point.
Enrollment
This package is sold through PhotoRobot sales. Customers receive a voucher code upon purchase. Each voucher is single-use, per-student.
For per-student pricing at Klecany, see the public sessions calendar. For custom on-site engagement pricing, contact PhotoRobot sales.
After certification
The 3D Modeling Specialist credential opens:
- Production 3D project leadership at customer engagements — you’re equipped to own the 3D portion of a complex digital catalog rollout
- Cross-specialty stacking — pair with OCR Specialist for visual + text product documentation; pair with Medical Photography Specialist (v0.38.0) for compliant 3D in regulated contexts
- PhotoRobot Certified Instructor (CI) path to deliver 3D Modeling training at your organization
- PhotoRobot Partner Network listing as a certified 3D Modeling Specialist
The cert is the entry point. Real 3D specialty mastery comes from shipping 5-10 production 3D pipelines across different product categories.
Module readiness

A note on reconstruction tooling
PhotoRobot’s 3D pipeline is capture-first. The 360° imagery PhotoRobot produces is the input to reconstruction tooling (Reality Capture, Metashape, photogrammetry-as-a-service, etc.). PhotoRobot does not ship its own reconstruction engine — that’s third-party territory.
This specialty teaches vendor-neutral principles + practical examples using common tools. Your specific customer engagement may use a different vendor; the principles transfer.
For specific tool recommendations or PhotoRobot’s preferred reconstruction partners, contact PhotoRobot sales. Tools evolve; the Academy textbook stays principle-level.
A note on PhotoRobot’s role vs. 3D specialist firms
PhotoRobot provides the capture pipeline that feeds 3D reconstruction. We are not a 3D modeling service — for high-end character rigging, photoreal cinematography, or complex 3D animation, you need a dedicated 3D firm.
This specialty teaches the seam between PhotoRobot’s capture and downstream 3D production. Operators + integrators who own that seam well are valuable; full-stack 3D artists who do everything from capture to final film are different roles.
For complex 3D projects, expect the 3D Modeling Specialist to work alongside, not replace, a dedicated 3D production team.
